PART TWO | OUR KITCHEN AND BUTLER'S PANTRY PROJECT REVEAL CELEBRATION

Welcome back to the blog and PART TWO of our 2020 PASADENA SHOWCASE SERIES, where we celebrate our incredible Showcase Sponsors for the 2020 Pasadena Showcase House of the Arts and share our SHOWHOUSE KITCHEN REVEAL 2020!

As everyone well knows, this showcase journey has been “one for the books” for sure (READ ALL ABOUT IT IN PART ONE HERE), but even though this year it was tricky and beyond challenging, WE DID IT.  It was because of the optimistic and determined support of our incredible sponsors and partners, the determined Showcase Board of Directors and our dedicated construction team, we persevered to create a beautiful space!

Of course, a bold dose of creative innovation and unwavering flexibility didn’t hurt.

In this post, we’d like to take a heartfelt moment to thank, introduce you to, and pay homage to, our wonderful friends, partners, and sponsors who made this showcase possible! Our relationships with our Sponsors have developed beautifully over MANY wonderful years, and I am so proud to celebrate the deep and meaningful relationships we have with them by showcasing them here today.

INSPIRATION

Our signature #cleanfreshmodern state-of-the-art statement kitchen was designed for the modern minimalist “foodie” and elegant entertainer with a busy family life; where function, flow, sustainability, and wellness are key elements at the core and center of their lifestyle. With a bold focus on mindfully selecting and integrating unique high-quality eco-friendly natural materials, harmonious textures, and layers of soothing neutral colors, this kitchen will charm, reduce stress, promote wellness, ignite conversation, build unity and create joy.

This well-edited cozy kitchen integrates the latest in technology with induction and all-electric cooking appliances, including a hydroponic urban cultivator, built-in pizza hearth oven, a 30″ 5-in-one wall oven with Advantium technology, 30″ traditional wall oven, under-counter wine reserve and a glorious butler’s service pantry and prep kitchen with plenty of storage, and a large central island with deep comfortable seating.

Aesthetically, this kitchen suite celebrates the collected, edited, and modern spirit with a focus on WELLNESS and JOY! With a smooth touch of that cool mid-century modern flair and divine simplicity, a not to (and retention of) some of the original traditional architectural elements of the 1930’s home; curated and poignant modern art and furniture pieces; and a few unencumbered and treasured vintage elements; this space speaks volumes about the future of kitchen design.

MEET THIS YEAR’S STELLAR SPONSORS WHO MADE OUR KITCHEN AND BUTLER’S PANTRY POSSIBLE

MONOGRAM APPLIANCES

CHEERS to my MONOGRAM family on this year-long commitment to showcase excellence!

In early 2019, I had the great honor of joining the elite MONOGRAM DESIGNER COUNCIL as one of 18 esteemed designers selected nationally, as part of an inaugural advisory group. Designers were selected that represent a diverse demographic and culture in the Kitchen Design space, for their rich experience in the field, and expertise in Kitchen and Home Design and Remodeling arena.

This was my first IN DEPTH exposure to the the MONOGRAM luxury line and their team of designers and creators. It was a year spent in deep research and discussion with all aspects of the production, product, marketing, and design team, and THEY LISTENED.  It is my great privilege to work with MONOGRAM and I am proud to present our collaboration to you today!

In this project, Monogram Appliances provided us with a complete state-of-the-art kitchen suite from the STATEMENT COLLECTION; and I mean, WOW!

MONOGRAM BUILT IN COLUMN REFRIGERATOR AND FREEZER

Gorgeous to look at (inside and out) and the features are incredible.  One of my favorite features is the chilled water filler pitcher integrated into the fridge.  It’s compact, filtered, fills super quick, reduces plastic, and the water is always ready for me!

  • Adjustable aluminum door bins with glass accents
  • Adjustable, hydrophobic spill resistant glass shelves with integrated
  • LED lighting
  • Autofill pitcher holds 54 oz. chilled filtered water

MONOGRAM BUILT IN 5-IN-1 OVEN TECHNOLOGY WITH ADVANTIUM TECHNOLOGY AND STANDARD CONVECTION OVEN

What can I say. EVERY KITCHEN NEEDS ONE!

  • Delivers oven quality food 2 to 8 times (240v model) faster with no pre-heat
  • Easy to use with over 175 pre-programmed menu items that can be customized
  • It even steps you through how to get the best results- from recommending
  • cookware to when to check for doneness
  • Wall Oven
  • Precision cooking modes is a suite of customized cooking modes that have pre-set cooking algorithms for specific foods to automatically track cooking progress, modify temperatures, and adjust cooking times
  • Air Fry uses hot, fast-moving air directed from above the food
  • Dehydrate mode uses airflow and low heat to remove moisture from foods
  • Self-clean glide racks

MONOGRAM INDUCTION COOKTOP AND HOOD LINER

Cooking with induction was a MUCH easier transition from gas than I expected. I am AMAZED at the ease and accuracy of cooking with induction!

  • Glide touch controls and timers for every burner
  • Sync burners with stainless steel-clad aluminum griddle included
  • Sous Vide accessory available

CAMBRIA SOLID SURFACES

With both inset, drop-in, and integrated installation options, (which integrate so beautifully with the gorgeous CAMBRIA quartz stone in DELGATIE from their Luxury Series we installed throughout the space), the cooktop and hood design possibilities for an interior designer are limitless.

We partnered with CAMBRIA for all our stone work, for not only it’s impeccable beauty, but for the integrity of the product and company’s sustainability practices. Luxury at it’s finest in both product and services.

We selected the stunning, touchable, and absolutely mesmerizing DELGATIE from their new collection. We wanted to create serenity and movement, without intrusion or distraction.  This stone was the PERFECT choice.  “Subtle with flowing white-on-white tonality and warm cross veining, Delgatie’s quiet demeanor blends effortlessly with its surroundings while maintaining its own delightful personality.

We intentionally chose to eliminate the density of upper cabinetry and heavy window treatments from the wall with the garden views and instead designed an elegant stone railing shelf that surrounds two walls, perfect for herbs, and personal vintage collectibles that bring joy to the user. We opted for custom organic and sustainable neutral linens on the windows to keep the eye scanning peaceful and the overall tone of the space serene.

TIP:  Data shows that “distracted eye scanning” throughout a space can create subtle anxiety, which over time, can create stress and avoidance. This is NOT something we wanted to create in a space designed for gathering, wellness and multiple activities.  Creating high-performing spaces designed to bring joy and cultivate emotional and physical wellness, is something we are passionate about.

Talk about joy! We also installed a beautiful custom DUTCH DOOR, which was the perfectly sentimental element that inspires the homeowner’s joy every day!

MONOGRAM DISHWASHER

LOVE LOVE LOVE, the way you can customize your cleaning in this beautiful dishwasher. Perfect for entertaining AND every day living; and your plastic containers actually come out DRY.

  • 3rd rack with marine grade ball bearings, can be reversed or removed (ZDT985)
  • Advanced wash system designed to achieve the ultimate clean with over 90 powerful jets
  • Bottle wash jets and dedicated silverware jets

We do love a unique and durable runner in the kitchen, and our go-to for all things vintage and beautiful are our dear friends at AGA JOHN RUGS.  Thank you for your years of showcase support and brilliant partnership!

THE SHOW-STOPPING MONOGRAM HEARTH OVEN

Kitchen goals!!! What a stunning and EASY TO USE luxury home appliance.  Made for the serious home chef, this hearth oven is a must have!

  • Up to 1300°F in cooking dome with independently controlled heating zones
  • Allows for simple install with no ductwork– no external ventilation required
  • Fast pre-heat, stone hearth reaches temperature of 800°F in as little as 30 minutes (Pizza in 2- 6 minutes)

We designed a custom cutting board pull out to ease the hot pizza transition and serving! Love this detail!!!

CHECK THIS OUT >> WestEdge Design Fair’s new INSESSION Series on YOUTUBE is AMAZING, and you can see our kitchen in full action!

WATCH HERE to see how CHEF MICHAEL DILAURO OF URBN CATERING teaches us the joys of making rustic Neapolitan pizza in the MONOGRAM HEARTH OVEN.

MONOGRAM UNDER-COUNTER WINE RESERVE

  • Holds up to 57 bottles of wine while maintaining the perfect climate
  • UV resistant, tempered glass doors

Tucked away in our Butler’s pantry, we designed a full coffee and wine lover’s service area. Complete with a SECOND full size Monogram “panel ready” Dishwasher, paired with a second 32″ sink and Faucet by ROHL.

FERGUSON BATH, KITCHEN AND LIGHTING GALLERY

So many thoughtful layers and subtle style mixing went to our kitchen design and FERGUSON always makes executing our vision so easy.

Here, we partnered with the Ferguson Showroom in Pasadena, CA, and you can see the joy sprinkled everywhere!

Our Boston Functional Single Arm Library Lights are from CIRCA LIGHTING which lended a more “traditional” touch to our contemporary look, provided by Ferguson.

INDOOR GARDEN

The fully automated hydroponic under-counter kitchen garden was also provided by Ferguson in partnership with URBAN CULTIVATOR.

The Urban Cultivator’s pre-programmed control center self-regulates water, light and humidity levels inside the unit. Plant each flat in a matter of minutes, and with a little weekly maintenance you’ll be able to enjoy lush, flavorful greens in days. Vegetable gardening has never been easier or more accessible.

ROHL

There is nothing quite like a ROHL FAUCET.

THIS streamlined stainless steel faucet and large modern stainless sink combo is one I frequently specify for its workhorse durability, longevity, and luxurious beauty. Paired with a Insta-Hot faucet, it’s a dream come true combo for any chef’s kitchen! Rohl is available thru FERGUSON.

FUN-TIME CABINET FACTORY AND TOP KNOBS

The team at FUN TIME CABINET FACTORY was a generous partner on this wild adventure, and we couldn’t imagine working on such a highly “customized” space without their expertise, attention to detail, and integrity. All the cabinet materials we specified for the kitchen were provided by our sponsor EB BRADLEY.  We selected this beautiful new matte walnut toned material from their CLEAF Collection.

TIP:  Hey design friends, you’re going to want to check out their collection, if you don’t know them already that is. Beautiful to work with, the tones are stunning, and it’s pretty much an indestructible finish.

The Carbon toned island was also from the same CLEAF Collection, and it is so easy to clean! There are virtually NO VISIBLE FINGERPRINTS on the surface when in use. Perfect for a busy chef’s kitchen with kids and pets!

WATCH HERE as Chef Kim, the Owner of Vucacious Catering and Sorry Not Sorry Restaurant, uses our kitchen island to give us her insider tips on how to host the perfect get-together at home.

We topped off all the cabinetry with a tiny touch of “mid-century style” in an ASH GREY tone, thanks to Ferguson and their partnership with TOP KNOBS.  This new hardware from their RIVERSIDE collection is available thru Ferguson, here.

REVEL WOODS and LAUZON FLOORING

Our glorious flooring was so generously provided by REVEL WOODS in partnership with LAUZON FLOORING.

This classic, soft brushed, white oak wide plank flooring that actually is Certified “ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY” by the California Air research Board. How beautiful is THAT!?! Read more about certification here.

REVEL WOODS, (our go-to experts for all our hardwood flooring needs), partnered with us to facilitate this gorgeous flooring installation.  Working with experts such as Revel Woods, in their particular fields certainly makes our entire process from concept to turnkey, seamless.

Now to the SPECIAL TOUCHES…

LYNNEA JEAN INTERIORS AND SOURCE ART

One of my most favorite things about this kitchen design was the ability to not only SPACE PLAN but to “DRESS” this finished  Clean Fresh Modern space up.  No other way to do that, than with special touches provided by our dear friends and sponsors Lynnea Jean Interiors and my long-time art guru, SOURCE ART.

Featured here is Lynnea’s JAMES SIDE TABLE from her gorgeous new furniture collection.  Modern, solid, and stunning elegant details. I urge you to check out her entire collection, here.

Our dear friends at SOURCE ART have been providing us with one of a kind unique and perfectly curated art for our projects since 2013.  SOURCE ART is a pleasure to work with and they’re always spot on when it comes to “getting” our vision in each space we design. It is always a beautiful collaboration.

A MUST HAVE

Another favorite spot in most of our custom Kitchen designs is a high-performing integrated desk and bookcase. We couldn’t imagine a kitchen without a charming comfortable area for menu planning, zoom calls, and checking emails. THIS ONE is just so perfect!

And there it is.

A year in the making.

Friends, great custom design, (for us), is an organic, layered, and collaborative process. Organic, meaning intuitive, raw, and responsive. Layered, meaning great design not only “evolves and develops” in layers, but it reveals itself over time and therefore, great design is responsive. Responsive, not only to the rigid and static parameters of the building envelope and architecture, but to the location, environment, and (of course) to the clients vision and budget. The key is collaboration, trust, and brave clarity. Understanding this inherent design structure and working within the framework that is unique to each project, and remaining flexible enough to allow for completely new ideas and solutions that can ONLY come from the combination of these particular elements, is what makes us different. It’s #the4ptdifference.

This year’s Showcase theme of designing for WELLNESS and SUSTAINABILITY was a dream come true for us, and celebrating our beloved sponsors here, that share our commitment to these design practices, was an absolute JOY.

Our MASSIVE GRATITUDE to our sponsors Monogram Appliances, Ferguson Bath, Kitchen and Lighting Gallery (Pasadena), Dunn-Edwards Paints, Cambria, Rohl, Top Knobs, Lauzon flooring (in partnership with Revel Woods), Circa Lighting, Fun Time Cabinet Factory, EB Bradley, Lynnea Jean Interiors, and Art Source! You are truly treasured, and we couldn’t even think about taking on a Showhouse, (or completing any of our client’s projects), without them.
