ARE YOU READY FOR THE FUTURE OF DESIGN? THERE ARE MANY COOL, CRAZY, AND INNOVATIVE TRENDS IN DESIGN BUT THIS TREND IS ONE TO KEEP YOUR EYE ON. IT'S REALLY HAPPENING!

Welcome back to another 2021 RECAP UPDATE! In my last journal entry, I mentioned that 2021 was a DOOSIE of a year, with so many challenges and SO many miracles! There was a lot of learning, frustration, and positive growth amidst the confusion and crazy, and we adjusted and persevered. I’m so glad you’re here today, and can’t wait for you to wrap your mind around THIS (talk about learning and adjusting).  ARE YOU READY FOR THE METAVERSE and the future of design in a digital new frontier? Well, fasten your seat belts friends, the METAVERSE is here and it’s something that we certainly will be learning more about this year.  As a business Owner, I wonder all the time about THE FUTURE OF DESIGN in an attempt to remain innovative, relevant, informed, and ahead of the curve; but THIS is a whole new concept for the world of design and build! I mean, THIS…is truly mind-blowing.

So, Are you CURIOUS?

During last fall’s annual visit to Fall High Point Market 2021, I had the great privilege and honor of joining some of our industry’s BEST interior design thinkers and product manufacturing leaders for a timely and very important discussion on the first EVER virtual SHOWHOUSE (see the direct link at the end of this post to learn more about the Seasonal Living virtual luxury design show house) and the latest in industry trends: specifically, the trend and opportunities that lie ahead at the intersection where design meets the future of technology in this wonderfully real and candid conversation about The Future of Design: From Virtual Showhouses To the Metaverse.

WHAT EXACTLY IS THE METAVERSE

“It sounds like—and often is—a dumb catchphrase used by the tech elite. But the Metaverse has real potential to change how we think about pain management, grieving, and systemic prejudice.” – John David N. Dionisio, MIT Technology Review

John David N. Dionisio further explains the metaverse as, “…a 3D immersive environment shared by multiple users, in which you can interact with others via avatars. A metaverse can, with the support of the right technology, feel like real life, with all the usual elements of work, play, trade, friends, love — a world of its own.” – MIT Technology Review .  Read more from his article here.

Patrick Knox also describes the metaverse as, “the next stage in the development of the internet”. – Patrick Knox, The Sun as seen in the New York Post. Read more from his VERY INTERESTING article here.

So, WHY is this relevant?

Leslie Carothers, panel moderator and CEO of Savour Partnership, clearly describes the connection between the metaverse and the future of the design industry in this video.

Leslie was a pioneer in utilizing the tools of the metaverse. In 2008, she arranged and conducted the first ever product development experiment in the virtual works of Second Life in collaboration with furniture manufacturer, Sligh Furniture. She wrote about this in her “retail ideas” column for the trade publication, Furniture Today.  You can read her full article here.

It’s a bit mind-blowing, so grab a coffee or maybe a glass a wine, and watch our discussion (direct link below). This is really happening, friends. Are you ready?

Hi Janet! Thank you so much for stopping by and I couldn’t agree more…the METAVERSE is a LOT to take in, and I am not so sure I’m ready! I prefer an intimate person-to-person connection, but I do understand that technology is a very real thing and it can do a lot of good for so many! We shall see! xox
