Looking back at our year and reflecting on our favorite highlights has been an eye opening joy.  It’s not always easy to “see” things clearly when we’re in the midst of maintaining that delicate balance between the attention grabbing challenges that designing, building, and running a company can bring, and enjoying the fruits of our labor.  Here are our favorite highlights from our crazy-busy and very blessed year.

January started strong with a full-tilt schedule of travel, events and new projects already in development. Out of the gate, we joined the elite team of Modenus’ Designhounds influencers to attend the National Kitchen and Bath Association’s (NKBA) premier annual trade show KBIS (Kitchen and Bath Industry Show).  As part of the BLOG TOUR 2017, we traveled to Orlando, Florida to report on what’s new, innovative and trending in the world of today’s luxury commercial and residential kitchens and baths.

It was a great privilege to meet and report on behalf of our sponsors Thermador, Grohe, Metrie, Mohawk, American Standard, Wilsonart, Wellborn and DXV.  Read our KBIS 2017 Trend Report.

In March, it was off to the Design Bloggers Conference at the beautiful Beverly Hilton Hotel. How fabulous to gather with dear friends, meet and connect with new people, and chat with of some of today’s most stellar design icons like Timothy Corrigan, Ken Fulk, Mark D. Sikes, and Barclay Butera.  For us, it was about learning how to build our business through our blog and effectively (joyfully and authentically) share the information we gather for our clients and subscribers. Let me tell you, it was a lot to take in for a new blogger.  Three days of information, taking notes, keynote speakers, new ideas, and key blogging tips! We spent time with some of our favorite design bloggers we LOVE to FOLLOW too. Rockstars like Laurel Bern, CozyStylishChic, Carla Aston, Amanda Gates, Linda Holt, Tami Faulkner and Wendy Glastier,  just to name a few. There was plenty of hugging, homage, inspiration and laughs.

After a “head down” busy summer preparing and submitting documents, designing, specifying, securing permits, start up, demo, building and installing, Fall brought wonderful news and we were off to Minneapolis! Read more about our incredible trip with the 2018 DXV Design Panel below.

After a full year of focused meetings, worksheets, sketches, more meetings, layouts, thumbnails, writing, editing and lots (and I mean LOTS) of coffee, we launched our brand new website and refreshed Clean Fresh ModernTM brand identity.  With that, we also introduced our new BLOG, The 4pt Report. I’m not sure we were truly prepared for the commitment that running a top interior design BLOG would require, but very soon we gained tremendous respect for those blogging rockstars we love so much.

So we were off and running, so to speak, even if they were “baby steps”.  It was exciting to finally feel centered, grounded, clear, and ready to take some very heartfelt steps in our shiny beautiful new platform. I must say, without a doubt, that we could not have accomplished this without the dedication and support of our Four Point team; the kind, patient friendship, expertise, and professional guidance of  Leslie Carothers throughout our re-branding journey; and the incredibly talented and collaborative Gustavo Morais, for taking our thumbnails and sketches and creating our beautiful website, making sure all the pieces work together perfectly…And we couldn’t love our animated logo more!

As much as 2016 saw the completion of many projects, 2017 was a year of project development!  We welcomed many exciting new residential clients and projects to our Four Point family:

| A gorgeous 1920’s tudor estate.  A complete restoration remodel project in Hancock Park, (one of LA’s coolest, oldest and most prestigious neighborhoods).

| A stunning and eclectic clean fresh modern remodel and expansion in Culver City for the most wonderful newlyweds.

| A darling little heart-project expansion for a lovely (and growing…) family in Toluca Lake.

| A fabulous mid-century modern remodel in the works for a creative family in Marina Del Rey (oh man, what an amazing location).

| A delicate project management mediation project in Beverly Hills where we were able to re-organize, re-structure, and oversee a very large new construction project and get the project back on track and completed successfully.

| An inspired interior design and remodel project in Woodland Hills with a very creative family. We love working with our young clients, and in this case a budding interior designer, as we worked together to take her space from kid to cool.

| One very special residential project we completed early on this year was featured in California Homes Magazine.  Read more

We were thrilled early on to hear that our our commercial work would also continue with two long-time clients.  Although we have completed many aspects of these two projects, we remain in development with a full build-out this year on both tenant improvement projects in West Los Angeles and Beverly Hills.

We can’t wait for these projects to be completed and photographed, so we can share them with you!

Earlier this year we had the great pleasure of being nominated for two prestigious industry opportunities: The Modenus TOP 100 Design Influencers for 2018 and the 2018 DXV Design Panel. It is always such an honor to be recognized by our peers, colleagues and friends, but these great moments sort of blew our minds.

We landed at No. 14 on the list of 100 design influencers (THANK YOU EVERYONE for voting for us); and were selected to join the 2018 DXV Design Panel.

What is DXV?

DXV is one of the design industry’s most prestigious and visible brand collaboration opportunities available today.  As American Standard Brands enters its fifteenth decade of business, it proudly launches DXV by American Standard, a flagship portfolio of luxury bath and kitchen products that celebrates the company’s distinguished 140-plus-year heritage by re-imagining the most influential design movements during that time.”

Every year, an open Call for Designers is published by the DXV brand.  Once a designer is nominated, a panel of judges, which include Veronika Miller, CEO Modenus, and the American Standard, Lixil and DXV brands’ family of designers and marketing team, review hundreds of nominations and research each designer’s portfolio.  The FINAL FOUR designers are selected based on an extensive first round submission inspired by PARIS, and assigned one of the FOUR DESIGN ERAS: Classic, Golden, Modern and Contemporary.  Here’s an early concept sketch for our FIRST ROUND submission.

We will NEVER forget opening that email to read, “CONGRATULATIONS, you have been selected!” What an extraordinary moment. Charged with the mission to design a luxury space for the CONTEMPORARY line of DXV products, we will have our clean fresh modern signature style design built, photographed, and memorialized in a year-long DXV ad campaign world wide.  This year’s inspirational theme is ART: THE MASTERS.

Following in the footsteps of some truly brilliant designers, each with a predecessor passing the baton to the next, here is the talented Allison Habermehl with our wonderful DXV introduction:

For now, the exciting final details are TOP SECRET, but we invite you to keep watching for more as we reveal sneak peeks in the coming weeks and months.

This year brought fantastic opportunities for our design work and team to be seen and heard.  We couldn’t be more grateful to have been featured and spotlighted in such beautiful ways: California Homes Magazine presented a gorgeous feature on our kitchen project; We had so much fun at Light Show West on panel with the esteemed lighting designer Kathy Pryzgoda Light Studio LA; and we appeared in lovely features created by our friends at Houzz (Featured), UCLA Extension (Alumni Spotlight); and Lumens and Caesarstone (Designer Spotlight).
