Phew! It’s been a day; but it’s #designtalktuesday and sharing bits of wisdom and joy with all you lovelies is the BEST part of my day!

Happy #DesignTalkTuesday, Friends! Ever wonder what makes a great counter stool? There are MANY considerations and here are a few of our top tips when we select them for our clients:

KNOW YOUR STYLE OBJECTIVES: Counter stools can be a beautiful focal point in any kitchen and can stand out in contrast and drama, or blend in to create a more subtle design result. Knowing your objectives before you shop, will help you navigate thousands of options before begin shopping.

MATERIALS: Consider materials that will support your objectives. For an organic, subtle, relaxing vibe, consider materials such as neutral rattan, caning details, natural wood tones, etc. You can search with these terms to focus your efforts.

SEAT WIDTH/ARM HEIGHT: One of the most important things often overlooked, is the arm height and seat width. TWO important elements when selecting stools for your kitchen island. A good rule to remember is that you will need a minimum of 9"-11" clearance from the seat to the underside of the countertop and a minimum of 6" between "stools”, and at least 8"-10" between if your stools swivel or have arms. Don't assume the website references these as BAR our COUNTER height accurately and check the actual dimensions and specs of the chairs you are considering.

COMFORT: Consider seat depth, back rest (high or low lumbar) and foot rest height, material, arms/no arms, and finally, the cushion. If this seating is your primary seating, consider a padded cushion and back rest. If you have little ones, consider a cushion that can we washed or removed and replaced. IF you love a good patina as much as I do, consider leather.

For more in-depth design tips and guides, check out our e-books on our NEW SHOP, coming SOON…(like, REALLY soon)!!! 👏🏻

Hope you’re having a great week! xx 🤍

Hey, lovelies! Nothing says, “woohoo” and "ta-da" in an interior space better (and as dramatically) as window treatments do! It's that beautiful final touch that takes your finished space to the next level! Although some spaces architecturally do not "require" window treatments, (and it can depend largely on the views, glare, and the purpose and function of the interior space), but generally speaking, it's a MUST for most spaces!

Whether you opt for simple fixed decorative panels that frame your views and window, to full-blown shades with sheers and drapes, (and everything in between) custom window treatments truly enhance the elegance of an interior space. One of our signature approaches to window treatments is, what we call, the soft approach. Keeping the wall color and soft organic linen shades in the same color creates a seamless, almost floating, serenity in a room! It’s relaxing and keeps the eye scanning peacefully. 🤍 We adore those touches of wellness!

Thinking about window treatments in your space? Let us know how we can help! Our NEW one-hour online intensive consulting sessions might just well be the perfect fit to help you decide what might be the best window treatment options for your space! Stay tuned for our new online services coming this Summer to our new Shop!

Happy Friday! 🤍

Small spaces CAN have a BIG IMPACT; especially when it comes to guest and powder bathrooms.  Petite spaces have long been one of our FAVORITE spaces to design, and the creativity is abundant! Whether it's a dark sexy moody space, a delightfully whimsical space, or just a simple elegant design with function and purpose, the impact of great design in these tiny jewel boxes can be huge!

Here are a few of our design tips for designing a small powder or guest bathroom:

MIRRORS. Mirrors will help make the space feel larger and can be a wonderful opportunity to add a bit of personality.

PAINT. Paint is a great way to add drama to a small space and it’s easy on the budget. Play with the finishes, such as dark colors in a glossy lacquer.  Remember to prepare your walls carefully and in advance of using a “gloss” where the inconsistencies of the walls could show thru and even become more visible. General tip: Light colors will make a space feel more “open” and thus larger / Dark colors will make the room feel small and cozy.

WALL COVERING. A SURE way to express your design confidence and add drama, whimsy, & conversation is thru wallpaper! So have FUN!

HARDWARE. Have fun & spend a little extra on show stopping hardware.

LIGHTING. Lighting in ANY space, but especially in a powder room, has the ability to define the “mood” so well. Keep fixture style, proportion, and scale in mind, but don’t be afraid to keep lighting dimmable and WOW!

STONE. Consider a custom stone integrated sink vanity. Be mindful of who may be using this space and keep maintenance at the forefront of your design.  Onyx and marble will require upkeep, whereas a solid surface will keep maintenance easy.

SHOWER ENCLOSURES. ALL GLASS enclosures will ensure the space will have a larger feeling; and keeping the TILE visible provides another opportunity for more fun. If moody is your “look”, consider selecting dark tile, paint, and stone.

MORE expanded tips, guides, services and MORE will hit our NEW SHOP soon; coming THIS SUMMER. Stay tuned!

Happy #designtalktuesday, friends! 🤍

I can’t believe August is here! We’re hittin’ the ground running already on this beautiful Monday! It's going to be an exciting busy month ahead for team 4pt, and we are here for ALL of it!

We are deeply and truly grateful to have a FULL project roster and SUCH beautiful clients; and with 5 active construction sites, (all at different levels of completion) and 3 more projects in design development; daily site visits; the pressure of timelines and schedules; navigating unexpected shipping and product delays; design presentations, drafting, revisions, resourcing; daily project management; a new online shop launching this Summer; personal self-care (so we don't lose it 😵‍💫); and plenty of sleep, water, laughs, family, and hugs, our plates are deliciously full!!!

Does it all sound a little crazy? Perhaps. But seriously, it's NOT crazy at all! It’s what we LOVE to do. Sure, it’s hard work, but it is SO worth it!

Happy Monday, my friends! What's on your plate this week? 🤍

Hey, Lovelies! We received great questions about this kitchen lighting so we’re sharing a few of our tips for #designtalktuesday:

DROP. Measure from the finished floor to the ceiling. Countertop dimensions are typically 36”. Measure between 30”-36” above the countertop and THAT will be the sweet spot for the bottom of your pendant. This will give you the measurement from the bottom of the fixture to the ceiling. Check your specs for details to determine the “drop” you will need for your pendant. Many fixtures come with additional length options you can purchase to accommodate your ceiling height. You can also opt to customize components to fit your exact dimensions.

SLOPE. Always note if the ceiling is sloped! A factory produced canopy is always best.

LAMP. It is VITAL to consider the way the lighting will enhance the finishes that we spend hours selecting. Lighting has the ability to either enhance color or disrupt it. We find that selecting the most accurate color quality for our design to create a particular mood is key to creating a seamless, controllable, specific yet flexible lighting plan. We typically select 3000K for all our (always dimmable) layers. Confirm with your contractor that the dimmers, transformers, switches, and lighting fixtures you are selecting are all specified properly for compatibility prior to ordering.

ISLAND LIGHTING. When considering island lighting where people gather and engage, consider creative options. At times, clear glass and oversized pendants can be distracting, and nearly blinding to the eye, especially for a very tall person or in a small space. There are many effective creative ways to light a space to be efficient, flexible, and stylish, without using typical lighting elements. Be brave! Opt for unexpected mini flush mount fixtures or high-level architectural recessed fixtures!

Ultimately, your lighting will depend on the overall design objectives, ceiling heights, sight lines, materials, and size of the space.

Our expanded lighting checklist will be available for download on our new shop, coming this Summer!

We are just a little bit crazy for mixing neutral materials, textures, and finishes (if you know, you know), but especially when it comes to the kitchen! Customizing the appropriate finishes for a heavy use space like a kitchen, and to bring YOUR unique home to life, takes a bit of skill, confidence, and experience, but the results are simply...Chef's Kiss!

Happy Monday, my friends! xx

One of our favorite views from our #napachicmeetshamptonsfarmhouse project! For this primary bath our objective was to create a spa-like experience complete with steam; a space that sits high above the treetops in a completely secluded property so the mind/body/spirit can find peace, restoration, energy, and calm!

We love the clean lines and monochromatic tones we selected for this space. The client’s trusted us, and they were creative and fearless. The intention of the edited design is clear: this a (gorgeous) space to seek wellness, joy, and good health.

This Primary Bath has been SO loved and shared by SO many, and we are totally blown away by your wonderful questions and enthusiastic support! We’re so happy you are loving it!

A modern-minimalist kitchen suite with a focus on WELLNESS and JOY!

This beautiful #cleanfreshmodern kitchen and butler's pantry will always hold such special meaning for me. It was designed, built, and completed, in spite of indescribably difficult odds (during the first year of COVID, major mask-wearing heat waves, and meltdowns); and every time I need a boost of confidence and a reminder that perseverance and determination are omnipotent, I gaze at this project. I am reminded over and over again of all the beauty that is possible when the entire team works together with a generous and positive mindfulness towards a single goal.

This space, and all the wonderful talented generous people and vendors that worked so hard to complete it, will forever remind me that #anythingispossible, and together, if there’s a will there’s always a way!

Hey, beautiful friends! It's #DesignTalkTuesday, and the season for indoor/outdoor living is definitely here! Here are a few of my #CleanFreshModern design tips to consider when designing your own outdoor living experience!

1) Start by considering HOW you would like your space to function: Will it be serving as an elegant dining experience on warm summer evenings, or primarily small intimate dinner parties? Perhaps there’s a lifetime of kids birthday parties in your future? Will this outdoor space be a direct extension of your indoor space? Consider that connection and make selections that will “speak” to the adjacent interiors.

2) Ask yourself, how many needs will your outdoor space serve? For example, If you primarily entertain for cocktails in a small space, then perhaps there is no need for a large dining table. You can easily opt for a petite cocktail bar with cozy lounge seating.

3) Create a budget, draw a floor plan, take pictures, and determine the color scheme early on. Carry it with you on resourcing trips!

4) For a CLEAN FRESH MODERN look, keep your base furniture materials neutral. Then, add layers of pattern, texture, and tone in soft colors such as taupe, oatmeal, mushroom, oyster white and putty. This is the part where you can have FUN and add your own personality! Select fun patterns and textures (while keeping the tones and colors relatively neutral and close in style such as tribal, stripes, florals) that express YOU!

With neutral bold architectural pieces like this Meditation Dining Set from our Provenance Signature Collection, the colorful accents are easily rotated throughout the seasons and will further provide a seamless overall design; and one that responds organically to the natural surroundings and changing seasons.

Happy Tuesday! 🤍 xx

Happy #designtalktuesday, friends! I’ve been thinking about one of our favorite rooms to design today and feel so grateful to be currently designing and building out FIVE youth spaces!

Our #DesignTalkTuesdayTip for today when it comes to youth and tween spaces is to invite the little ones into your design process! We typically will schedule an entire design meeting just for them (edited, of course, to accommodate their age and unique listening styles); presenting room colors, fabrics, small furniture pieces and decorative accent lighting to get their feedback and selections. For the meeting, we have already narrowed the scheme down so that their selections will both work, no matter what they select, and so they don’t get overwhelmed.

If they show signs of involvement early on, we encourage them make a vision board. We suggest they pick out 2-3 of their favorite colors and any reflection of what they like to do (i.e., dance, sports, games, etc.).  Paint will be the easiest design element to work into a room concept, and it’s also the easiest thing to change in the future, so we start there. We take into consideration any needs when it comes to learning styles, allergies, fabric sensitivities, and sleep patterns. We leave all large investment furniture pieces and window treatments classic. These large basic pieces will have to grow with them, so select the highest quality the budget can afford. Keep the “up to the minute” kid trend picks to the accessories, which is also easy to swap out as their tastes change.

It is important to ease the stress of a large lengthy project by letting our youngest clients have some control in their space. Older tweens transitioning to high school have a very specific vision and will jump on the chance to be a part of the design process. Sometimes our projects can be in development for a year and a half, so schedule those “trend” decisions closer to the end of the design and planning process, as kids tastes change quickly, especially at the tween ages. I love seeing their eyes light up when they see and feel that they are part of the process.  Happy Tuesday!

Hi, friends! 👋🏻 We’re at the halfway mark for the week and we’re goin’ strong, and so is THIS CEILING!!!

THIS curvy sexy acoustic ceiling treatment was designed and installed with “sound” wellness in mind. It's so important to keep the acoustics "warm" in a space, especially in a work space where many people gather, and with so many hard "bouncy" surfaces such as concrete floors, large windows, and stone; and of course, keeping the look sleek, polished, and creative is ALWAYS the intention. 😏

How’s your week going so far?

It’s #DesignTalkTuesday! 🙌🏻 As promised, I’m sharing our final favorite countertop summary on WOOD, GRANITE, and CONCRETE.

It can be overwhelming to select the right material with so many options to choose from, so I hope this helps!

WOOD / Wood is classic, warm, textured, inviting. It’s a beautiful material for heavy prep use and blends beautifully with marble and other kitchen materials, so it works as a great accent as well. Hardwood is EASY to repair, so scratches can be sanded and resealed. If a “furniture finished” wood look is what you are going for, I don’t recommend putting in an area of the kitchen that will be used for cutting or heat. However, featuring your wood countertops for “serving” can be spectacular! CONS: It is not heat resistant and is vulnerable to scratching/staining. If you don’t love a “patina”, then go with a fine wood finish for your kitchen in a non-prep area and stick to a stone finish and butcher block cutting boards. Some maintenance may be required over the long term to retain the finish.

GRANITE / One of the most affordable, durable, and toughest 100% natural materials on the market, granite is heat, scratch, and chemical resistant! Overall, it requires the lowest level of maintenance and can be done without hiring a professional to seal it. Sealing IS required as it is a porous material, but it is easy to apply.  Granite is considered a sustainable material, it has a beautiful natural veining, and can be a very exotic choice. CONS: The patterns and veining can be “speckled”, which is a distinct characteristic.

CONCRETE / Not your mama’s concrete from the 90’s! Today, concrete is pre-cast in a variety of colors and variation. One of the biggest PROS is that it can be molded in any shape, color, and texture. It is a rock-hard surface, heat, and stain resistant, low abrasion and durable. CONS: One of the biggest cons is that it is porous and requires REGULAR sealing. It is EXPENSIVE and heavy, which requires special framing prep. The repairs can be cumbersome and may require full replacement on a cracked or damaged surface.

Happy Tuesday! 🤍
