Hey friends! I hope you all had a blessed Thanksgiving! Every day I feel so grateful for all of YOU and this spectacular community we have created TOGETHER. And, as I had a moment of stillness today reflecting on the abundance I have been blessed with, I decided to take a different approach to Small Business Saturday and get a little head start this evening. ​​​​​​​​ ​​​​​​​​ This year, with purchase any one of our signature candles from our shop, we will donate 20% of proceeds to A Place Called Home, a charity so close to my heart.​​​​​​​​ ​​​​​​​​ “A Place Called Home is a transformational youth and community center based in South Central Los Angeles. Founded in 1993 as a safe space for young people facing poverty and systemic adversity. @apch2830 provides a safe, nurturing Environment with FREE PROGRAMMING in the arts, education and wellness, along with wraparound counseling support for Fourth Central youth to help them improve their economic conditions, and delve healthy, fulfilling and purposeful lives.”​​​​​​​​ ​​​​​​​​ Please know that while I am blissfully grateful for your support of our new shop and our small business, I would be even more touched and grateful, (and it would be so freakin’ awesome) if we could work together to improve the lives of our youth in Los Angeles. Happy Thursday, friends!​​​​​​​​ ​​​​​​​​ In reflection of the Instagram "glitch" a couple of weeks ago, it became clear again that we have become somewhat reliant on a platform that might, one day, disappear. In that moment, we would lose our connection; which is one connection that means so much to me. This would truly break my heart. Years of work to grow and nurture our beautiful community we’ve built here together, gone. ​​​​​​​​ ​​​​​​​​ For many small businesses, this is their main (or only) marketing media channel. What a lovely gift you can give your favorite small businesses this season, not only to shop small, but also to share your favorites with your friends. It’s easy. It’s free. You probably already KNOW just how much we LOVE #cleanfreshmodern NEUTRALS here at 4PT, and you probably also know how much we love to share our design tips with YOU! So, today, we are sharing our #4ptfavorite go-to neutral white paint colors from our @Dunn_Edwards paint deck. 1 - Dunn Edwards / Lace Veil at 30% Custom Blend / Eclectic Reimagined Modern Farmhouse, Westchester, CA 2 - Dunn Edwards / Swiss Coffee / Napa Chic Meets Modern Farmhouse, Calabasas, CA 3 - Dunn Edwards / White Picket Fence / Kitchen and Butler’s Pantry, Pasadena Showcase 2020, Arcadia, CA 4 - Dunn Edwards / Cool December / Contemporary Home Remodel, Calabasas CA 5 - Dunn Edwards / Droplets / Malibu Rustic Retreat, Malibu, CA TIP: Remember, just because a color looks great in one space, doesn’t mean it automatically will look the same in your space. Therefore, make sure you TEST your paint colors for at least 24 hours once the paint samples are on your walls. Swatches should be at least 24x24. Make sure to apply your samples in the same fashion your FINAL paint will be applied (prep, primer, and 2 coats of finish paint). Once it has cured and dried, make sure to place your samples in the darkest and lightest parts of your home, as well as a place that has a lot of reflection from the outdoor area, as the colors will shift when a prominent color outside the windows is reflected. Happy Monday, my friends!​​​​​​​​ ​​​​​​​​ An oldie, but goodie - A Contemporary California Farmhouse Chic Kid's Bath with a touch of modern whimsy. Our mission on this modern farmhouse design project was to create a bright whimsical shared bathroom space for two vibrant and busy school-aged kids with a touch of creative contemporary nostalgia! Of course, adding more functional storage space is always on the list, and we utilized the general existing plumbing locations for the new fixtures and trim. Touches of antique brass in a vintage style and whimsical touches throughout this space give it the personality and charm that brings this space to life! It’s #designtalktuesday and I’ve been thinking a lot about this topic over the last few weeks especially; and with all the Meta-this and Meta-that chatter (which I totally get the value of), it’s important not to forget the roots of design and the human touch in our beloved design industry. ​​​​​​​​ ​​​​​​​​ Not a day goes by in my design-build process that I don't take a pen to paper and draw. It is the most organic and thoughtful expression of my design and heart that I have. It's also a deeply personal tool of communication between me and my client! It's honest, fast, portable, emotional, and my clients' always appreciate seeing every aspect of the design development process. However, that said, we must work WITH technology to stay relevant, competitive, and innovative.​​​​​​​​ ​​​​​​​​ It is the appropriate collaboration between 2-D and 3-D computer animation and the human factor that makes for a well-described and successful design process and ultimately, a very detailed final set of construction documents. From cartoon quick sketching and hand drafting, to architectural renderings, It's worth it to retain this important skill. ​​​​​​​​ ​​​​​​​​ We, as creatives, must work to retain the "organic and authentic” processes in our industry! I can't imagine our world without the emotional and very real human factor in business.​​​​​​​​ ​​​​​​​​ Let’s embrace the future, but take a few treasures from the past with us!​​​​​​​​ ​​​​​​​​ Just a little something I was thinking about.
