Hi, friends! 👋🏻 We’re at the halfway mark for the week and we’re goin’ strong, and so is THIS CEILING!!!

THIS curvy sexy acoustic ceiling treatment was designed and installed with “sound” wellness in mind. It's so important to keep the acoustics "warm" in a space, especially in a work space where many people gather, and with so many hard "bouncy" surfaces such as concrete floors, large windows, and stone; and of course, keeping the look sleek, polished, and creative is ALWAYS the intention. 😏

It’s #DesignTalkTuesday! 🙌🏻 As promised, I’m sharing our final favorite countertop summary on WOOD, GRANITE, and CONCRETE.

It can be overwhelming to select the right material with so many options to choose from, so I hope this helps!

WOOD / Wood is classic, warm, textured, inviting. It’s a beautiful material for heavy prep use and blends beautifully with marble and other kitchen materials, so it works as a great accent as well. Hardwood is EASY to repair, so scratches can be sanded and resealed. If a “furniture finished” wood look is what you are going for, I don’t recommend putting in an area of the kitchen that will be used for cutting or heat. However, featuring your wood countertops for “serving” can be spectacular! CONS: It is not heat resistant and is vulnerable to scratching/staining. If you don’t love a “patina”, then go with a fine wood finish for your kitchen in a non-prep area and stick to a stone finish and butcher block cutting boards. Some maintenance may be required over the long term to retain the finish.

GRANITE / One of the most affordable, durable, and toughest 100% natural materials on the market, granite is heat, scratch, and chemical resistant! Overall, it requires the lowest level of maintenance and can be done without hiring a professional to seal it. Sealing IS required as it is a porous material, but it is easy to apply. Granite is considered a sustainable material, it has a beautiful natural veining, and can be a very exotic choice. CONS: The patterns and veining can be “speckled”, which is a distinct characteristic.

CONCRETE / Not your mama’s concrete from the 90’s! Today, concrete is pre-cast in a variety of colors and variation. One of the biggest PROS is that it can be molded in any shape, color, and texture. It is a rock-hard surface, heat, and stain resistant, low abrasion and durable. CONS: One of the biggest cons is that it is porous and requires REGULAR sealing. It is EXPENSIVE and heavy, which requires special framing prep. The repairs can be cumbersome and may require full replacement on a cracked or damaged surface.

Hi, friends! As promised, this week on #designtalktuesday, I’m sharing our top two trending COUNTERTOP OPTIONS to consider when selecting finishes for your kitchen!

Natural Stone Materials such as Marble, Granite and Soapstone are our typical top picks for natural stone. These materials retain their luxurious feeling over time and remains a classic. It’s perfect for a contemporary or modern aesthetic and is just as comfortable in today’s new farmhouse style.

MARBLE / With a very high-end look and a wide variety of styles, marble is perfect for the discerning client that embraces its lovely patina. It is classic and flexible and will typically be the showstopper. It goes with almost every material, with vibrant veining to calm and serene. Marble is heat resistant and will always retain its legacy of being the most luxurious material for a kitchen. Cons: Marble is expensive. It is also a natural material, and as such, has natural blemishes. It is porous which is prone to staining and has a low abrasion level. Resources can be limited if large quantities and sizes are required (depending on the type of stone you select); additional framing may be required to support it. Ongoing (preferably professional) maintenance and sealing is required.

Engineered Stone such as Caesarstone and Silestone are a compound material made with a combination of quartz and resin for extreme durability. Often made with recycled materials. (Quartz = 90% natural material / 10% resin not to be confused with Quartzite, a 99% natural material).

ENGINEERED QUARTZ / Another favorite material WE USE OFTEN is quartz, which is extremely durable, non-porous, non-staining, and anti-microbial. The maintenance is VERY easy, and it comes in various sizes, thicknesses, tones, patterns and finishes, which will be consistent from slab to slab. No sealing is ever required, and it is budget friendly as well. Cons: You are slightly limited in tone (even though there is a wide variety available).

Hey lovelies, Laura here! Happy Monday!!! I wanted to take a minute to say HELLO and give a heartfelt WELCOME to all our new beautiful friends! I also want share my deep gratitude for those who have been here with me since the very beginning. I so appreciate each of you, and love this community so much!

I’m Laura, and I am a native Californian, Los Angeles to be specific. I am the Owner and Creative Director here at Four Point, and together with my hubby, Cliff, run our small but mighty team of creatives.

Whole home custom new and remodel projects, kitchens, baths, and spatial planning are my specialty, and Cliff is a construction management specialist.

My design style is steeped in classic architecture and I create #cleanfreshmodern #interiorsforrealliving with a California casual twist. I’m a mama to identical twin daughters, two sons, two fur babies, and a wife to my one and only. I am fiercely loyal and my family is my everything. I am a designer and serial entrepreneur with a serious addiction to cooking and baking. My favorite color is black, and you will typically find me wearing vintage jeans, T’s and sneakers. My favorite time of day is just before the sunrise, as it is the time for meditation, prayer, setting the days intention, and a quiet uninterruped cup of coffee. I love to laugh, write, read, travel, sing and dance, and scouring farmer’s markets and swap meets for fresh food and vintage finds for my clients. I love space planning, design, and the smell of fresh cut wood and night blooming jasmine. I am a believer with a romantic soul. If I won the lottery tomorrow, I would buy a farm with plenty of room to build a handful of guest cottages, a gentleman’s vineyard and garden, wedding / event venue, commercial kitchen, and a wood shop. #mybucketlist

Sharing all the pretty angles in our #4ptclientforeverhome project that play and dance with natural light!

I’ve always preferred the way natural light can fill a space and provide so much character, especially when you design the home with daylight in mind! Of course, it definitely calls for expert finishing, but it’s so courageous!

These clean, soft, seamless and intentional angles and light shifting shutters we designed engage so masterfully with the changing light, bringing an organic emotional shift hour-to-hour in this home.

Happy #DesignTalkTuesday! One of the most important investments to consider in a new kitchen or remodel are the countertops! Some typical material options to consider are marble, engineered quartz, wood and granite, but it can be overwhelming to select.

Here’s how you might be able to simplify and focus your selection process for best results.

👉🏻 Function: How will you be using the countertops?
• Assess your key requirements for your kitchen first - consider who will be using the kitchen and how, consider pets, kids, cleaning styles, daily kitchen activities and entertaining styles.

👉🏻 Budget: What can you afford and what are your budget priorities?
• Consider budget early and determine your priorities when it comes to function, form, and style

👉🏻 Maintenance: How much maintenance are you willing to handle?
• Understanding exactly what each material will require to maintain will help you determine what material to select.

• Marble is the most beautiful material, but it is the fussiest. You will need to do a yearly maintenance sealer, and even with that, it will be prone to staining, and will patina over time.

• Engineered stone quartz will be perhaps the easiest to maintain, and as a non-porous and anti-microbial material, you can see why this is a very popular countertop material.

👉🏻 Style: What is your aesthetic?
• Are you looking for a high-energy natural marble with a “one of a kind” WOW factor finish, or does your style lean towards a more monochromatic, more relaxed vibe?

Determining these things early in the design development phase, will help solidify your concept and keep your focus sharp and your budget on point.

It is a true gift when a super-team comes together to collaborate; when all the players are working in their expertise and complimenting each other’s best contributions with one objective. We love working with talented eager trades, consultants, experts, and architects that take “pride” in their work. WHAT A DIFFERENCE “care” makes in the process and finished product.

This project is a beautiful illustration of how, when a strong clear design concept is paired with expert leadership, top-notch project management and craftsmanship, the results are seamless, intentional, and stunning.

I’m so proud of Cliff (and our incredible construction team under his guidance) for their tireless dedication to the building craft; for their attention to detail and the integrity of the means and methods of the construction process and design; for their immense commitment to quality; and the powerful kindness at the core of their leadership!

It was a #saturdayworkday for us today, friends, but it sure didn’t feel like work!

One of my favorite dreamy rooms to design is a young girl’s room (we’re working on three right now 👏🏻), and this #cleanfreshmodern bedroom from our recently completed project #4ptclientnapachicmeetshamptonsfarmhouse serves as the perfect inspiration! It’s pure love and joy! 🤍

The design is simple and intentional; organized; uncluttered; durable and easy to clean; with plenty of room for our young client to grow and express herself.

For me, it’s a very slow coffee and prayer with the sunrise; some early morning journaling, gardening, and a nap by the pool; an at-home facial and hair mask; a trip to the Farmer’s Market with the hubby and a heathy bit of grazing on clean food!
